Institutions

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The media institution that could potentially publish my media product is Cumulus. They are America’s second largest operator of radio stations as well as have over 150 listeners via digital media, targeted email and on-site promotions.
The magazine is a country music magazine and this is the company would be ideal to publish my magazine because they already publish country weekly, which is a general country magazine. My target audience is country music fans which in the UK is a small but popular genre. The sort of products my magazine would advertise would be country fashion, country gigs and concerts happening in and around the UK as well as female and male beauty and health products and possibly cars. It would be best placed with a medium publisher because the advantages of this would be that it could be distributed to most retails if not the main stream ones and would be able to the audience at a reasonable price. However the disadvantages if the magazine is published with a big company that if it does not sell and make profit like it has been designed to the company could simply just stop publishing it after so long because it is not creating the revenue it was predicted to. On the other hand the magazine would also be available online to download and subscription as well. It is possible that my title could fail within the first three years, this can be the norm so I have to make sure I choose the right company to publish my magazine in order for it not to fail.

Magazine institutions such as IPC Media wouldn’t publish my magazine because they publish more general magazines and don’t specifically publish one type of magazine. IPC Media publish magazines such as various tv magazines such as ‘What’s on Tv’ and ‘Tv Times’ as well as Instyle, NME and other magazines.
